The Correlation between World Events & Astrocartography
Locational Astrology has gained popularity since the late astrologer Jim Lewis popularized it, creating his own specialized techniques under “astro*carto*graphy.” Although this sector of astrology had been practiced for many years prior, Jim Lewis’ technique was a bit different, leaning more into “in mundo” positioning of the cosmic bodies, as well as computerizing planetary cartography by way of natal charts. If you do not know, in mundo base the planets’ and other cosmic bodies’ positions with respect to their projection to any given horizon we are speaking of. This is different from in zodio (also known as ecliptical or longitudinal), in which we view the planets’ positions via a projection to the ecliptic to see how the cosmos affects us earthlings. This is how we view the planets in order to create charts and ephemerides.
Now this information is important because the planets’ positions and how we project them are how we can create planetary lines, thus knowing how certain planetary energies affect our stay in any given location around the world. Usually, there is little difference in planetary position between in mundo and in zodio, with the exception of Pluto, which is truly a wild card here due to its orbit usually not syncing with the ecliptic like the rest of the planets. In cases where there are differences between the two systems, it can cause unease for most. This is why some locational astrologers stick to in zodio because it's in line with how we chart the cosmic bodies via natal charts. In zodio is projected on the ecliptic, and the ecliptic is cut into twelve, which are represented by each sign. This is how we know what sign a planet is in. Some also feel that the planetary line positions in zodio resonate more in their travel experience.
Notice the star on this image. The line from the star going directly to earth would be the location of the projection in mundo. The star has a line down from the ecliptic then a line moving toward the earth (the arrows are pointed in different directions but follow what I am saying). That would be the star's location in zodio. The ecliptic position shows what sign is in and then the line towards Earth shows the projection of the star in order for us to know where the planetary line is in zodio. Often times the position is not direction below each other like how it is shown in this image. Source of image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecliptic_coordinate_system#/media/File:Ecliptic_grid_globe.png
Although I respect both the in mundo and in zodio views of the planets, I can't help but favor in mundo when it comes to planetary line positioning. With that said, I use the in zodio as well perspective because it helps me relate the planets to the zodiac; however, the planetary line positions in mundo have shown to be the most powerful and accurate. One of the examples I like to use is the power of Zenith and how it helped me delineate location-based world events with incredible accuracy.
Astronomically, zenith represents what is exactly above an observer in the sky. Although often used interchangeably, the Midheaven (MC) is the point where the ecliptic crosses the local celestial meridian, which is the highest point in the sky at any given moment according to the local horizon. In other words, the zenith is the highest point where the local celestial meridian and local prime vertical intersect (so the zodiac is not directly connected to the zenith), and the midheaven is the highest point where the local celestial meridian and ecliptic above the observer’s horizon intersect.
However, in astrocartography, zenith is more so the planetary zenith. It is the area on Earth's surface where the projection of the planet is overhead, aligning also with the conjunction of that planet with midheaven/MC because it is in the same right ascension/longitude as the crossing of ecliptic and meridan (meridians on a celestial globe are lines of constant right ascension).
The zenith and the MC line is ever changing; it’s truly based on the horizon of a location and time. The zenith of planets in astrocartography is marked by colored circles on an astrocartography map. Because in mundo is not based on the projection of the planets to the ecliptic but the projection of the planets to the local earth (horizon/meridan), the MC line is calculated by finding the right ascension location of the planet, projecting it on to earth, and drawing a vertical line at that longitude. On that vertical line is a circle representing where the planet's projection on Earth is overhead. The vertical line is showing all of the locations (and their horizons) where that planet was exactly conjunct the midheaven at that point in time. Proof of the MC line being correct is that you literally see the intersection of the ecliptic and meridan happening below the star on this image. That location is marked so the longitude of the MC line as well.
The blue line thats says '0h right ascension' is just one location of the right ascension measurement of the celestial sphere. Depending on the location on earth, the celestial meridian changes so it can create a circle on the horizon or celestial sphere touching due north, due south, both celestial poles, nadir, zenith and all in between. The star is on a line of right ascension. All of the vertical lines in this image is a longitudal position of right ascenion. Just like how the star's location is projected on to Earth to show it's planetary zenith, the rigth ascenion line is also projected on to earth as a longitude line and that is the MC line. source of image: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right_ascension
Because the Earth turns, the longitudal location of the MC line, zenith and other cosmic bodies and their planetary lines changes minute by minute via right ascension. The latitudal positions of the planets and other cosmic bodies projected onto Earth are tracked in astrology via declination. Most of the time, planets stay within the zodiacal plane (between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn), but some get a little frisky and sneak beyond it, with the exception of the obedient Saturn, Neptune, and, of course, the Sun. The area on an astrocartography map where the planet's zenith is located is highly potent with the planet's energy.
It represents the planet's conjunction to the relocated MC.
In many house systems, it is representative of the cusp of the 10th house, which is an angular house (the most important group of houses in astrology).
Again, the planet's projection onto the earth is right above that area, almost as if the planet is beaming all of its energy in that part of the world.
So for example, if you look at your astrocartography map and find the Sun zenith, that will be where the Sun was overhead in that location, and that location, as well as the entire Sun MC line area, was experiencing true noon (when the Sun reaches its zenith for the day — it may not literally be noon time) at the time you were born.
Again, zeniths are something only shown in mundo astrocartography maps because it takes the current position of a planet and projects it onto Earth instead of projecting it onto the ecliptic. The direct beam of planetary energy to the location is potent, so much so that, similar to crossings/parans, the energy spans throughout the whole latitude of the zenith location. This is the key understanding that helped me delineate some world events using astrocartography in mundo.
All vertical lines are MC lines because MC lines are created by the the projection of the right ascension line to Earth that the planet is on. Again, the planetary zenith, which are these circles on this map , is the projection of the planet on to Earth directly.
Of course, there is an orb of influence in astrocartography, and that range depends on each astrocartographer. It is similar to how every astrologer has a different take on aspect orbs. Below is my personal orb of influence range in latitude and longitude for zeniths and MC lines when it comes to predicting world events.
The orb of influence:
Zenith — latitude orb — 10 degrees north and south
MC — longitude orb — 25–30 degrees east and west (which equals 2.5 hours before and after the astrological event)
(I’m still working out how to calculate events using longitude/right ascension.)
I do keep in mind contraparallel areas of the zenith in question, as well as the IC lines of the planet(s) in question. Oftentimes, it aligns more with the zenith latitude.
Scenario 1: Lunar Eclipse May 2022
We had a lunar eclipse in Scorpio on May 16, 2022. Not only does Scorpio represent transformation and intimacy, but with the Moon in Scorpio, where it is fallen, and with the Moon in mundane astrology representing the people, it felt like something was being transformed or taken away from the people. This is especially so for the region, highlighted by the zenith or the areas where the lunar eclipse was visible. A lunar eclipse is a full moon with the luminaries being the most aligned as they can be at the moment, and full moons typically represent us having to release something for us to align with our purpose at the current moment of the lunation. With the Sun being in Taurus, I couldn't help but think of Taurus-ruled things like money, material worth, agriculture, beauty, etc.
Now the eclipse happened in the western hemisphere; however, the declination of the Sun was 19 degrees N and the Moon 19 degrees S. The Moon was moving slightly faster as well, moving 14 degrees per day on average during that time, representing quicker results in how this lunar eclipse would actualize.
The white marker shows the center of the moon's zenith
The yellow marker shows the center of the sun's zenith
The light shades show the orb of influence I highlighted: 9N-29N
The dark line shows there lattitude of the sun during the lunar eclipse
The outlined country is India, where a significant occurrence happened
The chart I used was the exact opposition of the sun and moon during the eclipse
What Happened: India Banning Wheat Exports
India announced they were banning wheat exports. At the time, India was the second biggest wheat provider in the world. India is a huge country, but a lot of the country is not only at 19 degrees N cartography-wise but also within the orb of influence of the Sun’s zenith at that time. The actual latitudinal position of the Sun was pretty close to India, with the Sun’s zenith being directly above Vietnam and southern China.
After hearing the news, I decided to look at the natal chart of the current government structure of India, and the chart has a tropical Aries rising, making the Scorpio lunar eclipse in the 8th house — the house of shared resources. So the theme of the lunar eclipse for the country of India was transitioning out of the relationship they have to the world with their wheat and focusing on feeding their people with their resources. Again, in full moons, the Moon’s placement represents where/what we are letting go, and the Sun represents what we are pushing towards. With the Sun being in Taurus in India’s second house, they are focusing on holding on to their own resources to support their own people.

Scenario 2: Solar Eclipse in Scorpio 10/25/2022
There was a solar eclipse in Scorpio on October 25, 2022. Again, Scorpio represents transformation, intimacy, and fixated emotions, and with the Moon in Scorpio, where it is fallen, and with the Moon in mundane astrology representing the people, it felt like a renewal or a new cycle being marked by the people of the region highlighted by the zenith or the areas where the solar eclipse was visible. Something that has been building up is finally letting go to start a new cycle.
A solar eclipse is a new moon with the luminaries being the most aligned as they could be at the moment, and new moons typically represent a new beginning — being able to be aligned to our purpose at the current moment of the eclipse. With both luminaries being in Scorpio, I couldn't help but think of Scorpio-focused things like death, rebirth, transformation, occult, divination, ANYTHING hidden peeking its head or being exposed, etc.
The only applying aspect to this eclipse was a conjunction to a Scorpio Venus, where Venus is debilitated. This is showing me there is an effort to keep peace; however, there is also a desire to investigate and dig deeper. Now the eclipse happened in the southern and western hemispheres; however, the declination of the Sun was 12 degrees S and the Moon 11 degrees S — showing how this wasn't an exact total eclipse.
The ruler of the eclipse is Mars (traditionally) and Pluto (modernly), but because Pluto moves so slowly, we will focus a bit more on Mars. During the eclipse, the specs for Mars were: 25 degrees in Gemini, declination at 23°34' N (meaning it's out of bounds, being beyond the Tropic of Cancer line at 23°27' N). Mars being out of bounds brings more unconventional and offbeat energy to the event.

Hawaii is outlined because the event happened there
The chart I used was the exact conjunction of the sun and moon during the eclipse
So What Happened: Eruption of the biggest volcano in the world after decades of silence - Hawaii
There were a handful of volcanic eruptions within the 6 months after the eclipse, but the biggest was in Hawaii in November 2022. Mauna Loa, the largest volcano in the world, erupted on November 27 for 12 days after being silent since 1984. The Sun and Moon were both at average speed during the eclipse, with the Sun moving at 59'/day and the Moon moving at 13 degrees/day, so it makes sense that the eruptions happened within a month or two of the eclipse.
However, while the Sun and Moon were at 12 and 11 degrees S latitude respectively, Mars was at 23°34' N, which is about 4 degrees north in latitude from Mauna Loa (19 degrees N). This is within the orb of influence I mentioned earlier. Again, Mars’ position is important not only because it's the ruling planet of this solar eclipse, but also because Mars is associated with volcanoes, as it brings fire, lava, explosions, eruptions, and other Mars-like occurrences.
Mars was out of bounds as well, bringing in unexpected scenarios during this eclipse: the largest volcano erupting after not erupting for almost 40 years. It’s almost like it brought in a new cycle — exactly what solar eclipses promise to the collective.
Culturally, volcanoes are associated with transformation as well, so this situation fits in perfectly with the cosmic sky. Another interesting thing I’ve noticed is the eclipse being conjoined with Venus, a planet that represents feminine power, and volcanoes being connected to goddesses more than gods. That Venusian energy was in a debilitated sign, and that conjunction being the only applying aspect to the eclipse definitely shows the beauty and pain of volcanoes.
One of the only applying aspects Mars was making was to a 0-degree Jupiter Rx in Aries, expressing not only this happening to the biggest volcano on Earth (Jupiter is associated to abundance), but it being at critical degree 0 marks the energy of new beginnings as well. Jupiter was also ruled by Mars, creating a reception between the two energies.

Scenario 3: 7/27–8/1/2022 — Conjunction of Mars, Uranus, North Node at 18 degrees Taurus
There was a conjunction between Mars, Uranus, and the North Node in July 2022 that didn't get into perfect exactness (by minute and second), but it was exact by degree. The closest approach of the planets was actually August 1, 2022. From this conjunction, one can predict an unexpected event or situation (Uranus) that can bring fiery energy, damage, or harm (Mars) that has a sense of fate or inevitability (North Node) to it.
The best way to go about it is practically, looking into our tried and true methods or traditions for answers, due to the conjunction being in Taurus. This could also represent there being an impact on land or possible weather that causes damage to land due to this conjunction’s placement as well. Mars is debilitated in Taurus traditionally, and Uranus is seen as debilitated in Taurus in modern astrology. Makes sense — planets that are known for movement and exertion are being slowed down by the fixed earth sign.
Uranus and the North Node even work hand in hand in numerology, both being associated with the number 4 — the most solid and stubborn number in this system. However, the lesson is to be able to create foundations to withstand the waxes and wanes of life, and the North Node (the transitory point of fate) and Uranus (planet of spontaneity) test that.
Typically, applying aspects to a conjunction like this will be hard to track, as the North Node is usually Rx, and Mars and Uranus were in direct motion at that time. The applying aspects to the planets were an exact sextile to Venus in Cancer, a trine to the Moon in Virgo, and a square to Saturn Rx in Aquarius.
Declination-wise, the planets were not eclipsing each other perfectly; however, they were pretty close: Mars was at 15 degrees N, Uranus was at 17 degrees N, and the North Node’s projection was at 17 degrees N. This makes the orb of influence of this conjunction between 5°N and 27°N. For speed, Mars was a little bit higher than average at 39'/day, and Uranus was as well at 1°11'/day. Venus was exactly at average speed at 1°12' a day.
One of the events happened on the same exact day as when all planets were at 18 degrees Taurus, but not at their closest exact conjunction. This shows me that although perfectly exact aspects are significant, they are not necessary. Moreover, another event happened when two planets were in the same degree — Mars and Uranus at 18 degrees Taurus — but the North Node was 1 degree away. So exactation is not necessarily needed. It's also not necessary that the planet is at high speed for there to be immediate results, although planetary speed can show us how quickly an event happens when it comes to planetary cycles and eclipses.

What Happened: Philippines Earthquake and a Chinese satellite crashing in the Sulu Sea
Philippines Earthquake/Tsunami
The 2022 Luzon earthquake happened in the province of Abra in the Philippines on 7/27/2022. The 7.0 earthquake was so significant that it caused hundreds of aftershocks well into October, months after the main earthquake. It also caused an unexpected tsunami on the same day. It was unexpected because the earthquake was inland enough to typically not cause tsunamis; however, this wasn't the case here. Thousands of lives were affected and there were millions of dollars in damages.
The conjunction of disruptive planets and points being in Taurus, a fixed earth sign that is often associated with land and the earth we walk on, definitely speaks to a natural disaster like this. Mars brings damage and disruption to the land, and Uranus does too, but more so makes it unexpected. The North Node allows inevitable situations to occur in order for us to learn and grow from them.
In the case of the earthquake, this Saturn square shows the struggle of having to bring support and aid to the people affected during a trying time — having to put boots on the ground in this situation. There was a great interest by the general public to bring support to the people affected by the natural disaster, and that can be expressed by the Moon in Virgo. Moon represents the people in mundane astrology, and Virgo is not only a stickler for detail but is also known as a sign of service.
The projection of the conjunction was between 15–17 degrees N cartography-wise, allowing an orb of influence of 5°N–27°N. The coordinates of the epicenter of the earthquake were 17.560°N, within the zenith of the conjunction and exactly on Uranus’ and the North Node’s zenith. It is clear that the zenith of this conjunction showed the latitude of this event.

Chinese Satellite Crash
On July 24, China sent the Long March 5B over to its Tiangong space station carrying a new module. The satellite from this space mission was predicted to crash somewhere on Earth, and no one knew when, how, or where. It caused a lot of concern due to the potential threat to lives since the satellite was about 25 tons and moving fast.
As soon as I heard about us preparing for the crash, I decided to look into astrocartography to see where it could potentially land. There was a great interest by the general public in tracking this satellite, and that can be expressed by the Moon in Virgo. Moon represents the people in mundane astrology, and again Virgo is not only a stickler for detail but is known as a sign of service.
The Chinese government was tracking this satellite, but sort of shrugged it off, which could express the Saturn square (Saturn being associated with the government and squares bringing tension). The end-of-life mechanism of this satellite was seen as a bit careless to other space programs internationally because “unlike the core stages of most rockets, which are steered to a safe disposal shortly after launch or land softly for future reuse, the Long March 5B reached orbit along with its payload, (Wall, Mike. space.com.)” causing it to quickly, uncontrollably, and unpredictably drag back down through the atmosphere onto Earth. Critics greatly oppose the design of this spacecraft because it did not allow it to burn up completely during reentry to Earth’s atmosphere.
Aquarius is also seen as a technology-focused and future-forward sign as well, so Saturn's placement here is showing a government focusing on those things. But overall, this energy speaks greatly to the conjunction of fast (Mars) and unpredictable (Uranus) space junk causing potential threat by hitting earth (Taurus) and us having to experience chaos in order for us to learn to better execute these missions (North Node).
The crash happened on 7/30/2022 in the Sulu Sea in the Philippines. Yes, unfortunately, the Philippines was hit again! Thankfully, no one was hurt, but I am not sure if any sea or avian creatures were harmed. As you are aware, the Philippines was highlighted in the latitude of the conjunction’s zenith generally. The debris landed at 9.1 degrees north latitude, which is in the waters of the Sulu Sea, southeast of the Philippine city of Puerto Princesa. 9.1 degrees latitude is within the orb of influence I used for my prediction using the zenith of the Taurus conjunction — 5°N–27°N

Closing Section
This article is going to be a continuation of tracking world events and correlations shown via locational astrology, specifically in mundo astrocartography. What is presented here is only an initial layer to a much broader study that is a work in process.
There are several directions this research is poised to expand into:
Creating techniques to get right ascension and longitudinal locations as well — maybe we can get exact locations other than latitude/declination when it comes to world event predictions
Archiving the locational astrology of past events using this technique
Applying planetary cycles to this technique as well, to see if more can be explained
The ability to track events more routinely, rather than stumbling upon them
Translating this technique more to personal use by applying cyclocartography and pushing to popularize these techniques
Applying geodetic houses to this technique
Applying other divinations as well to see if they can help us narrow down locations and situations more
Doing some sociological and anthropological work with locational astrology
And many, many more
This is meticulous work that unfolds over time.
As research continues and the archive grows, so will the depth of tracking, documentation, and analysis. I do not want to rush prediction for spectacle or excitement (although it is quite exciting), but I do want to strengthen and grow the system of locational astrology so we can continue to look to it for personal travel as well as understanding the changes happening all around the world. The correlation between astrocartography and world events are too strong.
Astrocartography is not a novelty — it is an incredibly accurate system within locational astrology that has untapped research potential. This article was written to highlight the power not just in locational astrology, but astrocartography and in mundo astrology. We mustn’t shut down certain aspects of divination or astrology - we shall remain open-minded to the power of every practice.
As we know, planetary energy is powerful, and although we may not be able to predict with 100% precision, understanding the cosmic dance in the sky can help us integrate important lessons for us to learn individually and as a collective. This includes lessons happening on a global and mundane level that we can consume and even de-escalate as we become even more aware of the rhythm of the cosmos.
Sustained support allows this research to expand with greater consistency and precision. The work itself, however, remains ongoing.
